Shanghai Palace - Granville & 64th Ave

I like this place, small & home-y in the Marpole area. The 'siu lone bows' (steamed dumplings) are to die for. Ten to an order and with minute amount of soup inside just waiting to fill your palate. A meal for 6 including assorted seafood crispy rice, minced duck meat with lettuce wraps, a vegetable dish and 'nien go' - chewy slices of rice noodle will cost you roughly $65 with tip. Recommended.

Comments:
Since you've in the past written about Joey Tomatoes, I wanted to share with you that I've recently patronized Joey Tomatoes too.

Despite its proletarian name, Joey Tomatoes is definitely upmarket, where I found the food good and the waitresses well-sculpted and chiselled and telegenic. They obviously work out in their spare time and eat little more than salads and other rabbit food.

I'm given to understand that Joey Tomatoes is owned by the same people that own Earl's. I can well believe this, since Joey Tomatoes has a feel similar to Earl's - upmarket, yuppyish, with unwashed unshaven drunken bums no-where to be seen.

But because I'm an egalitarian socialist I feel I shouldn't patronize places where the waitresses are all so pleasing to the eye because, as I think I said in a previous comment, it doesn't seem fair to hire good-looking employees at the expense of the ugly since people who are ugly can't help it.

So I'm looking for a place where the waitresses are not only ugly, but also fat. And if they smell sweaty and unwashed this would help too.

Can you recommend such a place?
