Bouzyos Taverna - Commercial Drive
After hiking the Grouse Grind, one can work up a healthy appetite. Add the fact that the World Cup consolation match between Germany and Portugal was on, then it was a no-brainer to look for a restaurant on the Drive.
The Drive is Commercial Drive, a north-south boulevard on Vancouver's east side where many World Cup fanatics gather to watch the game blasting out on TVs from every coffee house and restaurant.
The Drive was alive on that Saturday, but not as hyper as it would be the next day for the final.
The Drive is now very much multicultural. Sushi restaurants fight for space with Greek and Italian restaurants. Pizza joints vs vegetarian places, coffee houses vs juice bars.
We decided to try Bouzyos Taverna right in the middle of the Drive. I had the lamb souvlaki for $11 and a pale ale for $5.75. My colleague had the lamb wrap ($10) and beer. The atmosphere was unbeatable like the German defence.
Compared to Stepho's - the lamb souvlaki came skewer-less, the meat was about the same, the salad seem fresher but there was no bread to dip into the tzitki sauce. It was a great day to be alive.
There are so many restaurants on the Drive, that one could do at least 100 meals here.

You say that the atmosphere at Bouzyos Taverna was as unbeatable as the German defence.
Since the German defence was found wanting against Italy, are you implying that the atmosphere at Bouzyos wasn't quite as unbeatable as you at first suggested?
